NPTE: Remembering all those names.

30 Rock

It's been a while since I posted. Sorry! But here's another NPTE tip if you still need it.

How to remember the names of ALL those tests and conditions. It all goes back to giving context to the test or condition.

My fav blogger, Cup of Jo writes how to remember names of people after you meet them. "If a new person tells you his or her name, picture someone else you know with the same name." She gives the example of meeting a person at the park and her baby's name is Jack. She pictured Jack Donaghy from 30 Rock. Now she will forever remember that baby's name.

Apply that to all the tests and conditions that you have to remember... I watch youtube videos of people describing their clinical symptoms of their disorder. It gives real life context to the disorder. I watched a really good video of this Australian/New Zealand? man with Guillain Barre syndrome. It was easier to remember the symptoms because I would just imagine this guy telling me his story.

As for committing the tests to memory, nothing is compared to good old fashioned- practicing the test with your study partner. If you forget then your partner will say, "Remember, its that test where you try to stop the piece of paper from slipping out from under your thumb." [Froment's sign].

Picture from Nicole Jensen blog and a little advice from Jack Donaghy.
